January 26, 2022 by Toufik Hasan 5 Comments

ConvertKit vs MailChimp Review

The difference between ConvertKit and MailChimp is so subtle that you can’t be able to judge them at the first sight. Not only price but also features should be differentiated with features and benefits, at the time comparing two tools.

So, today in this article we are going to compare the two top-tier competitor email marketing tools, ConvertKit, and MailChimp email marketing tools.

So, let’s jump into the main discussion by skipping the unnecessary talks.

Meet Convertkit

Feature Overview

ConvertKit email marketing tools offer their subscribers to grow an audience base through email marketing strategy.

This tool offers to create a landing page, sign-up forms, sell digital products, design emails, collect email list subscribers, and automated email campaign systems.

On the other hand, MailChimp also allows reaching the targeted audiences using email campaigns and better content, automated campaign system, transactional email, integrations, email commerce campaign and selling, etc.

Although the features and strategies of these two tools are the same, ConvertKit is suitable for bloggers, freelancers.

In contrast, MailChimp is a good fit for small and mid-sized businesses, companies.

Types of Emails and Contents

Different Varieties of emails provide multiple advantages, like increasing CTA, open rate, engagement rate, and also easy to build, etc.

ConvertKit allows broadcasts and sequences emails for their subscribers.

Welcome email, Onboarding email, Abandon cart email, Event email, Cold subscriber re-engagement email sequence are provided in this email marketing tool.

You can be able to generate test emails, single emails, AB testing, cold emails, personalized and customized email newsletters from ConvertKit.

And you will get here different types of workflow type, like this,

MailChimp also allows broadcast email, mass email, welcome message, sequence email (Onboarding series, Education series), etc.

And MailChimp users are able to send regular, plain-text, AB Testing emails to their subscribers.

And here you will get different types of campaigns,

Now come to the content. You will get introduction content, educational content, product-related content, soft pitch, hard sales pitch, and upsell offers available in ConvertKit.

MailChimp offers dynamic content for its users that is totally absent in the ConvertKit email marketing tool.

NB: Both these two email marketing tools offer advanced and individual email types. So, depending on this feature, they are more developed in their own position. We can’t consider any of them the winner.

Subscribers can easily use Image, CTA, HTML code (if they want to customize any source code), templates in ConvertKit.

Here they will get default and additional content for their email content.

MailChimp also allows users to add different types of content with other additional editing options.

Like Heading, Paragraph, Image, video, Logo, Button and so on options are available here.

Users will get a drag and drop editor in MailChimp that is unavailable in ConvertKit.And another important thing is that MailChimp offers dynamic content for its subscribers.

ConvertKit subscribers will be deprived of using the dynamic content in their email.

Content Duplicating, redo changes, preview option is also available in MailChimp for arranging emails better.

NB: In this feature, MailChimp offers some advanced benefits that are absent in ConvertKit.

Automation System

ConvertKit offers a “Visual Automation System” for its subscribers for viewing the email sequence.

And there are a huge number of automation templates for different tasks with preview options and customization.

Convertkit vs MailChimp

ConvertKit’s automation system is well-arranged and a Drag and drop editor is also available in their automation system.

ConvertKit also allows you to choose event, action, and condition triggers with a triggering option that you won’t get in MailChimp.

Now it is the term of MailChimp.

MailChimp also has an automation system with a visual editor facility. It also provides triggering, filtering options for their subscribers.

But MailChimp has drawn a limitation for their automation system. For the Premium plan users, they have kept many benefits of the advanced visual editing facilities.

If you aren’t a Standard / Premium plan subscriber, you won’t be able to customize the templates.

NB: It can be said that MailChimp and ConvertKit automation features are good and advanced. They are in the same position in terms of features. But the Essential plan  users will be deprived of MailChimp’s advanced automation features

Landing Page and Sign-up form

MailChimp allows customers to host their landing page on their own domain.

Subscribers can be able to choose their favorite landing page, sign-up forms from the templates without any cost.As well as, proper customization, a drag, and drop editing tool is also available here.

ConvertKit users are also able to use a huge number of templates from the built-in library.

Here users will get different types of templates like video, event, webinar, etc.

Using HTML and CSS code editor, it is possible to create new templates in ConvertKit also.

NB: In the terms of landing page and sign-up forms feature, MailChimp and ConvertKit are equal in their positions.

Spam Rate

If the spam rate remains less than 0.1% then it is called healthy.

And in June 2021 ConvertKit’s spam rate was 0.0046% which is much healthier than the limit.

On the other hand, MailChimp’s spam complaints are 0.01 percent.

Let’s see some industry-based soft and hard bounce rates of MailChimp.

NB: Here we can come to a result that ConvertKit’s bounce rate is less than MailChimp.

Now Come to the ConvertKit tool.

But in this feature, MailChimp provides more detailed data about campaigns.

Because MailChimp shows the users last clicked, last opened, social performance, Subscribers with most opens, Forwarded opens reports that are more advanced than ConvertKit.

NB:  MailChimp provides more detailed campaign data than ConvertKit.

Email Delivery

95% email delivery and the bounce rate won’t be higher than 3%, which is considered as a good delivery rate.

MailChimp According to a report of ConvertKit (September 2021 report), for over one million messages, their delivery rate is 99.73% and 0.3% bounce rate.

On the other hand, according to a survey by Mailchimp, they sent 195.218 emails to their recipients.

Then  71.28 % of emails reached the recipient’s mail inbox and 25.56 % reached the spam folder after a successful delivery. And 3.16 % of the emails were lost.

According to this report, their total email delivery rate (inbox+spam emails) is 96.84%

NB: So at last it can be said that ConvertKit’s email delivery rate is more than MailChimp.

Now come to the open rate of ConvertKit and MailChimp.

Let’s see the open rate range and the reputation.

According to an April 2021 report, the email open rate of ConvertKit was 29.3% which is considered a high open rate.

On the other hand, MailChimp’s highest open rate is 28.77% and the average rate is 21.33%.
